Confusing Words

Does "bored" mean the same as "boring"? What's the difference between "funny" and "fun"? Here are some commonly confused English word pairs.

politics and policy

POLITICS is used to talk about government and related ideas. (usually singular but always with – s)

Examples:

Roger is planning to retire from politics next year.

You talk beautifully, you should be in politics .

Mike doesn’t know much about politics .

POLICY is used for people’s rules of behavior not necessarily connected with politics.

Examples:

It is our company’s policy to employ a certain number of handicapped people.

You say ‘Honesty is the best policy ’ when you want to advise someone that it is better to tell the truth than to lie.
